Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Sometimes you get a little lost.

Rikki McDougall · October 01, 2024

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Sometimes you get a little lost.

(for some reason, google maps took me down some very rural roads in Kentucky) I’m not heading into my workshop as mentioned in my previous newsletter. At the time I sent it, I didn’t have a clear understanding of how severe things were in western North Carolina. With a mix of denial and naivete, I was remaining hopeful that things would still continue on mostly as planned - just a bit late. I was holding on.

I am deeply lucky to be only disappointed. I am safe - Many people have lost their homes, businesses, and loved ones. This beautiful area has...

hello from the road! the sequel!

Hi, hello, how are you? With slightly altered plans, that avoid driving into a tropical storm, I am writing to you from a rainy Madison, Indiana!     Madison happens to have a lot of historical buildings so its been fun to explore here a bit.     I am headed BACK to North Carolina, to attend another jewelry workshop at the same school of craft I attended in the summer, for a 6 week intensive workshop. The school is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and is a very inspiring and beautiful place to learn.(The red roofed...

Picking up rocks, seashells or cool sticks at the beach. Postcards, matchbooks, hotel pens, silly fridge magnets pennies from a penny press (MY FAVOURITE!). Charm bracelets, souvenir spoons. Concert tickets and movie stubs. Taking photos, saving mementos. Any way that we can best hold on to things that can only truly be held in our minds and in our hearts. They are the very important physical ties that call those memories back to the fronts...

hello from the road!

Hi! Hope your July is off to a great start! This is just a quick hello from the road before I head into the workshop I will be attending which starts tomorrow(!!!)   After a (pretty intense) 4 day drive from Winnipeg, fuelled by Sweedish berries, cold brew coffee and popcorn -I'm headed to a school of craft that's nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It's a 2 week immersive workshop where I'll be eat, sleep and drinking the ancient art of lost wax casting, which I know almost nothing about! Exciting!   I'm very much...

souvenir handmade is evolving!

souvenir handmade is evolving!

I never imagined that 15 years ago, with a pendant made from a vintage photo of my grandparents nestled inside a spoon, that it would set me on a path - growing into something I’m really proud of. Having the chance to do what I love. Being creative, working with my hands making jewelry.Over the years, the intention with souvenir has naturally evolved, creating pieces to be worn for all of what life brings - your most important moments, and also carrying you through the day to day. Making what you often reflect back to me are your favourite pieces....
