souvenir handmade is evolving!

I never imagined that 15 years ago, with a pendant made from a vintage photo of my grandparents nestled inside a spoon, that it would set me on a path - growing into something I’m really proud of. Having the chance to do what I love. Being creative, working with my hands making jewelry.
Over the years, the intention with souvenir has naturally evolved, creating pieces to be worn for all of what life brings - your most important moments, and also carrying you through the day to day. Making what you often reflect back to me are your favourite pieces. What an honour!
The name souvenir felt fitting, because it means to remember, and represents a love for nostalgia + sentimentality. Thoughts of my great grandmas spoon collection, that I loved so much came to mind. Polishing and playing with them each time I visited. These were souvenirs of life well lived. Of different times. Ways to remember, and connect back to special moments in life.
Now, I’ve reached a point in my creative journey, where my ideas have expanded outside of what I’m able to make with my current skill set. A place that is both deeply exciting and to be honest - scary. This is what I love to do and I think I’m meant to do it - so I’ve been asking myself a lot, how do I keep going? Truthfully, I’ve been feeling pulled to change things up for a while now.
So it’s time for a shift. This shift will lead to exciting new places, while calling back to the original spirit for souvenir. Making meaningful jewelry keepsakes that bring joy, connect you to your most cherished moments and are tokens of a life well lived.
A key part of this shift is including space to learn. Never having more than a few days of formal training, I am excited to say that is going to change! Beginning in July, I will be taking some time away to hone my skills, to work on this new vision for souvenir, and explore the craft of jewelry making. A “sabbatical” if you will.
Once things are underway, I am going to turn inward a bit and focus on this change in direction. Be more present in the moment. The website will be paused, and I won't be on instagram much.
For an inside peek, I will be sharing photos, what I'm working on and what I’m up to in more depth right here. Because I will miss you! So please stick around for the good stuff - I won't be sharing it anywhere else!
I’m looking forward to this new chapter - every time I think about it really, my stomach does an excited flip. So that tells me something good lies ahead. I can't wait to share it all with you. Thank you for being here and having an interest in what I get up to! I hope you stick around and follow along on this new journey with me - it’s going to be great!
