Why I am focusing on sterling sliver these days

When I first began making jewelry over 15 years ago, it started with a simple pendant, made from an old vintage spoon, and a photo of my grandparents inside. I gave it as a gift to my mom, and from there, things took off! I soon began making them for other people - started participating in local markets, developing a whole line of jewelry, getting it into shops, and the rest is history!
Old forks, spoons, ornate handles - I was drawn to the idea of transforming something forgotten into something cherished. Things with an already living history, and re purposing them, giving new life to overlooked materials has always been at the heart of my work. Later as my jewelry skills expanded and as I grew as an artist, I found myself drawn to working with vintage brass trays. I love the warmth of the metal, and the beautiful patterns that they have. The idea that these pieces had a different life. It gave me the freedom to shape new pieces and experiment with a whole new world of forms while staying true to my roots in re use and reinvention.
Over time, something within me shifted.
As I honed my skills and grew with my practise, I started to feel pulled towards making pieces that were heirlooms, that could last and be worn for a lifetime, maybe even generations. I wanted to create jewelry that carried depth of meaning, and could be cherished forever.
This is what led me to sterling silver.
Why sterling sliver?
It lasts- sterling silver is durable and timeless. It doesn't just survive the years, it ages beautifully. I wanted to offer you pieces that wouldn't fade or wear thin, but would instead become part of a daily ritual and maybe one day be passed on. Silver is a precious metal, so it increases in value over time making it a good investment and is more affordable than gold.
It aligns with my values - Sustainability has always been a quiet thread in how I like to operate. From cutlery and trays to silver. Much of the silver I use is recycled, and silver can be melted down and recycled again. You can even collect the scraps and bench dust to use it and repurposed it so there is very little waste! I prioritize purchasing new material that is 100% recycled so that it allows me to continue creating with care.
It reflects my craftsmanship - As I deepened my skills in silversmithing and learned a bit about lost wax casting, I fell in love with working with silver. It takes to detail and form in a way that honours the time and care I put into each piece I make. The result is jewelry with soul, texture and intention.
What this means for my work
The pieces I'm creating now are slower and more intentional. They invite a deeper connection, and they are meant to hold meaning, whether that's in the form of a vessel, keepsake locket or stone that resonated with you.
Silver has become the foundation for this next chapter - not as a departure from where I've come from as a jewelry maker and artist, but a shift and evolution in to a new phase and body of work.
If you have been following along for a while, thank you!! I appreciate you so much. And if you are new here, I'm glad you are joining in.
