It's no wonder we humans are natural collectors.

Keepsakes serve as reminders of our most special moments, awe inspiring views, the ones we love - all varied and unique to our own life’s story.
Picking up rocks, seashells or cool sticks at the beach. Postcards, matchbooks, hotel pens, silly fridge magnets pennies from a penny press (MY FAVOURITE!). Charm bracelets, souvenir spoons. Concert tickets and movie stubs. Taking photos, saving mementos. Any way that we can best hold on to things that can only truly be held in our minds and in our hearts.
They are the very important physical ties that call those memories back to the fronts of our minds once again.
This summer I spent some time in between jewelry courses travelling a bit with my partner to celebrate some personal milestones (including turning 40!)
I thought a lot about this human tendency to collect and hold on as we visited each place. It was so meaningful and so fun to spend time rambling around. At the same time I was also aware of how quickly it can go. I did my best to be present, soaking it all in, wanting to hold on and "keep" it all. It’s bittersweet and I think that give + take of life is really beautiful.
I still have more developing of ideas and learning to - I am heading back to North Carolina at the end of September for another 6 week workshop. Yes that's right! I'm already overflowing with new ideas from my last course, so I can't wait to see what comes up from these new techniques from this next go around.
Once I’m finished gathering ideas and skills, I’m excited to get back to my bench, and do my best to capture the essence of remembering in the form of wearable art. To create things to share with all of you. Keepsakes, special pieces that have sentiment, that can serve as a reminder of life’s special moments and are tokens of the things we hold most dear.
